Parker's Preschool Binder

I started this Kraft binder, for Parker, at my August weekend crop, and finally put the finishing touches on it at my September All-Day crop (yesterday). Check, check and check!!!!

He is officially in PreK this year and we've been working on his letter, numbers, colors, shapes, etc.   I wanted to make him a 'busy book' of sorts.....we do so much running around for his older sisters' activities, I am hoping that maybe this will keep him occupied for a minute or two.  One can dream, right?!?

The cover decor & all the pages were made with the CTMH Cricut Artbooking cartridge.

I wanted the pages to be good & thick, because he is SO rough with things.  I cut two of every page, glued them together and then after I added the page content, laminated each one.

I also cut two of ever image, one for the page and the extra which was laminated (and 'velcro-ed' - is that word?) separately so he can use it to "match".

I store the pieces for each page, in plastic baggies, at the back of the album.

Let me know if you have any questions on how I cut or assembled any of the pages.

Chantilly Textiles...

I've been wanting to use the Chantilly textiles to make a utility apron...for a long, long time now.  Me, the gal who does very little sewing.  But, it kept nagging at me...how cute those colors would be together, maybe a rolled fabric flower and some bling.  Always have to add the bling.  I am actually REALLY tickled that I did it.  I sewed something!  And it fits, it ties, the lines are straight (for the most part!)... I am pretty damn happy with myself.  Is it sad that this little utility apron makes me so proud?!?

Anyhoo...I still can't decide if I am going to add some flowers and bling.  I am kind of diggin' the basic look, but who knows what tomorrow (or the next day) will bring.

I added the Hollyhock Zipper Ribbon just below the tie...how cute is that ????

After all my back patting (to myself)...I must give credit where credit is due.  I followed this easy utility apron tutorial HERE!

More Base & Bling!

I am having so much fun w/ the new Base & Bling!  I'll be honest...my first thought, when I saw this in the new Idea Book, was Ugh!  Really?  But I have to tell you, it's been  pretty dang cool.  My wheels are turning...I am thinking Halloween themed necklace, Christmas/Holiday themed necklace....which, by the way, is SO NOT ME!  Am I am showing my age?

Maybe I'll set a new trend...screw the holiday vest & sweaters...everyone will be wearing Base & Bling!  I am sure that it will embarrass the heck out of my teenage daughters...which just might be even more of a reason to do it!  I'd say that I'll post picture of their eye rolling, but they won't even look at the camera for me anymore....ingrates!  I just keep telling myself that one day they'll thank me.....

Fall Football Food!

Things are finally cooling off around here...temps dropped 20 degrees yesterday, and we're enjoying some low 70's!  I love this time of year...we get to open the house up, kids play outside without complaining about how hot it is...and best of all, I break out all of my casserole recipes.  You know the ones...that just remind you of Fall and that lovely cooler weather!

Here is one of our favorites - I don't really have a name for it.  Should we call it 'Mexican Cornbread Casserole'? or 'Southwest Cornbread Casserole'?...call it what you want.  I call it hmm, hmmm, good!

This isn't an aesthetically pleasing dish, but I assure you...it is some yummy, if a bit spicy, comfort food.

Ingredients:

1 pkg - Ground Turkey - all white meat
1 red bell pepper - chopped
1 green bell pepper - chopped
1 small yellow onion - chopped
2 - chipolte peppers (chopped) + 2 Tbls Adobe sauce
1-2 tsp chopped garlic
2 Tbls oil of choice - for sauteing
1-2 Tbls cumin
15 oz can - diced tomatoes w/ green chilis
15 oz can - light red kidney beans (drained)
1/2 bunch fresh cilantro
1-2 cups shredded mexican blend cheese
1 box/pkg corn bread mix

Directions:

  1. Pre-heat the oven to temp specified on your corn bread mix directions.
  2. Saute' garlic, onion, bell peppers, chipolte peppers in oil, until soft. Set aside.
  3. Brown the ground turkey until no longer pink.  If you have any liquid, drain it off.
  4. Add saute items to the ground turkey, along w/ the adobe sauce, cumin, and diced tomatoes.  Stir and cook over med heat for 3-4 mins.
  5. While that is cooking - chop the kidney beans & cilantro ( I used a food processor).
  6. Remove saute from heat, and fold in the chopped kidney beans, cilantro and cheese.
  7. Pour the mixture into a well greased casserole dish (large).
  8. Prepare corn bread mixture per the package instructions and then pour over the top of the turkey mixture (in casserole dish).
  9. Bake per the corn bread package instructions, until the corn bread is golden brown.
A couple of things, that I'd like to point out....
  • I've tried this recipe with ground beef (97% lean) and it wasn't as good.  I don't know why, but it was just greasier.  And not in an Mmm, greasy! way....but in a Eww, greasy! way
  • I've tried this recipe without chopping up the kidney beans...and I didn't like it as much.  The taste was the same, but the consistency was off.  I don't know...I guess I am just weird like that.

AND, if you aren't counting calories....it's even better if you eat it scooped on tortilla chips!  Wowza!!

I know that I should give credit where credit is due...but I honestly can't remember where I adapted this recipe from.  I know it isn't the original, because I almost never follow recipes to the T.  And I've been making this for so many years now, I can't remember where I initially saw it. My apologies and my Thank You(s) to the true originator.

Clearance! Clearance! Clearance!

I absolutely LOVE it when CTMH adds new items to the 'While Supplies Last' section of my website!  I noticed a bunch of additions this morning, and have already placed an order.  You know...because I NEED more scrapbooking supplies!  They're so cheap, it'd almost be a sin not to buy them, right?

I think my favorites are the 2" Scallop Punch ...for just $5!  What???  This retailed for $14.95.  I LOVE my scallop punch!  Snatch it up, NOW!, because it will gone before you know it.

And the Spellbound Paper for just $2.20!  This paper packet was ONLY available as part of a Workshop-On-The-Go kit (Autumn/Winter Idea Book 2013).  It was something that I didn't get for myself, back then, but now at just $2.20 for 18 sheets of cardstock weight CTMH paper....I probably ordered way more than I need!

Check out all the 'While Supplies Last' items HERE -  I would suggest grabbing a friend or two - go in on an order together...the shipping can be kind of brutal!
